I watched most of last night's enthralling encounter between Rafa Nadal and compatriot Fernando Verdasco! What a match! I still can't believe the athleticism, power and endurance shown by both guys over 5+ hours. Simply stunning, and I feel lucky to have been able to catch most of it live on TV! My heart goes out to Verdasco who fought like a champion and hit an unbelievable 95 winners over the course of the 5-hour thriller. Well done mate! Any other time, your effort would have been enough to win a Grand Slam tournament.
Anyway, so I was wrong about Tsonga and Djokovic who crashed out in the semis and quarterfinals respectively, but right about Murray who also lost in the quarters to the superlative Verdasco, and about Nadal being the favorite. Despite his 5 hour exertion against Verdasco, I think he has to be the favorite on Sunday against Roger Federer simply because Rafa has just played at an unbelievable level all through the tournament. Even against Verdasco, who himself was playing out-of-this-world tennis, he only lost 2 tiebreaks! Though I love Fed to death, I just don't see him being more successful than that.
So, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict, Rafa to win 4 sets, although I'd love to sit through another 5 set thriller in the final! And since I'm feeling lucky, for the Super Bowl, Steelers to beat the Cardinals but by less than a touchdown. Let's see how it all turns out...
